Who: Founder of Monster.com and Eons, Inc.
Current Residence: Charlestown, MA
Spotlight: The man who brought you the online job board is now bringing you the web portal… for fifty year olds (or older). Founder of the popular job search engine Monster.com, Taylor just launched his new venture, Eons, Inc., a company dedicated to celebrating the life and lifestyle of the 50+ demographic. $10 million says that old people will be charmed. Taylor, 46, is no stranger to flashes of brilliant insight: in 1993, after a client told him “No more big ideas. I want a monster idea,” Taylor had a dream about creating a bulletin board where people could post their jobs. To ensure remembrance of said dream, he wrote down at 4:30 in the morning on a pad of paper by his bed “The Monster Board.” The rest is history.
Friends: Sequoia Capital and General Catalyst Partners, who put up the majority of the $10 million in initial financing for Eons, Inc. Taylor must be feeling good about Sequoia’s vote of confidence: the venture capital firm helped start Internet giants such as Yahoo! and Google, and its companies now account for 10% of Nasdaq.
Dish: Was a full-time DJ at the Palace in Saugus and the Metro in Boston after leaving UMass-Amherst.
Quotable: “If you go to a party, you should always dance. Because if you don’t dance, what are you gonna say the next day? I should have danced, right? So make sure you dance.”
Estimated net worth: $13 million, according to Fortune.
Zillowed: Has a vacation home in Chatham, MA near the beach in a neighborhood filled with $2 million houses. Otherwise, Taylor lives in a four-bedroom house in Holliston worth $949,627.
Pooch: If you count the Monster.com monsters, then eight.
Aspirations: “To live to a hundred (or die trying)!”
