Noam Weinstein, A.B. '99

Who: Singer/Songwriter

House: Mather

Hometown: Cambridge

Current Residence: New York City

Spotlight: From the stairwells of Harvard to the clubs of New York City, Noam Weinstein’s quirky music has captivated audiences with its inventive lyrics and artful composition. Growing up in Cambridge, Weinstein learned guitar and trumpet and showcased his talents as a teenager at Club Passim, the venue for artists such as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez in the early sixties. Following in the footsteps of these folk music greats, Weinstein moved to Greenwich village after graduating from Harvard with a degree in Computer Science. When asked about his life goals in the Crimson, he replied: “I'd like to go into songwriting professionally, but I'll probably end up doing something else during the day, like armed robbery.”

The Dish: PasteMusic.com calls Weinstein “a young Elvis Costello mixed with Randy Newman.” Nashville Rage raves over “articulate lyrics delivered in a soulful croon that favorably recalls Elvis Costello.” Starpolish.com suggests Weinstein’s “well-produced tunes and smart, ironic lyrical humor will appeal to fans of…Elvis Costello.” An uncanny resemblance further proves that Weinstein is, in fact, Elvis Costello reincarnate.

Friends: “Over recent years I've especially benefited from playing with Jess Tardy (a college classmate now living in Nashville), Greta Gertler (an Australian living in New York) and Naomi Sommers (a Connecticutan living in Western Massachusetts).”

Secret Aspirations: “When I was little I was obsessed with train conductors. In junior high school I wanted to make computer games. In high school and college I dreamed of being financially stable and well-adjusted. But this is all highly speculative.“

Politics: “I'm a registered Democrat in Massachusetts. (Cuz the ladies like it.)”
