Who: Co-founder and president of Facebook, the student networking site imperative to 25-and-under existence.
Degree: A.B. ’06 (on hiatus)
House: Kirkland
Hometown: Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
Current residence: San Francisco
Spotlight: Zuckerberg’s addictive social site recently scored $25 million in venture capital, which should help the ballooning company develop new features to draw in even more users. The infusion also quells rumors that Zuckerberg had been looking to sell his brainchild. But maybe that’s because the price hasn’t been right: In early April, Viacom Inc. offered $750 million for the site—but Zuckerberg, with admirable chutzpah, said he wouldn’t go below $2 billion.
Friends: Adam D’Angelo, Zuckerberg’s best friend from Exeter; Dustin Moskovitz ’06-’07, his former roommate and earliest partner in Facebook; Andrew McCollum ’06-’07; Eduardo Saverin ’05, who provided the initial $1,000 in startup capital; Sean Parker, co-founder of Napster. Zuckerberg's Facebook profile lists 143 Harvard peeps.
Enemies: Divya K. Narenda ’04, Cameron S.H. Winklevoss ’04, and Tyler O.H. Winklevoss ’04, who sued Zuckerberg in 2004, charging that he stole their idea.
Sugar daddies: Venture capitalists Greylock Partners of Waltham, Mass.; Meritech Capital Partners of Palo Alto, Calif.; and investor Peter Thiel, the founder of PayPal and a longtime backer of Facebook.
Wheels: A black Infiniti FX35
Dish: In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Zuckerberg revealed that he always carries two types of business cards: One that lists his title as CEO, and one that says I'M CEO . . . BITCH. He’s been phasing out the second one.
Tongue-tied: “I would just rather be dependent on ourselves. Most businesses aren’t like a bunch of kids living in a house, doing whatever they want, not waking up at a normal time, not going into an office. So, like, I don’t think that an older venture capital firm would jive well with that.” —Zuckerberg, in a 2005 Crimson interview.
