Louis Tobian, 86

Professions: Faculty member of the University of Minnesota Medical School, served as professor of medicine and chief of the Hypertension Division from 1964-94 and chief of the Division of Renal Diseases from 1964-76; clinician; served as President of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research and of the American Society of Hypertension.

Degrees: Graduated from Texas University; M.D. from Harvard Medical School, 1943.

Honors: Recipient of some of the highest honors in his field, including The Ciba Award of the American Heart Assoc. Council for High Blood Pressure Research, the Franz Volhard Award and Lectureship of the International Society of Hypertension, the American Society of Nephrologys John P. Peters Award, and an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship in Cologne, Germany.

Death: September 2, 2006, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
