James Powell, 88

Professions: Practiced ophthalmology for over 30 years; instrumental in the formation and development of the California Medical Society; captain and chief medical officer to General Patton's 3rd Army during World War II.

Degrees: B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley; M.D. from Harvard Medical School, 1943.

Death: June 12, 2006, at his home in Coachella Valley, Calif.
