Bert Kaplan, 87

Professions: Professor of psychology and member of the founding faculty at the University of California, Santa Cruz; helped found the university’s graduate program in the history of consciousness; stationed in Okinawa to treat soldiers for battle fatigue during World War II.

Degrees: Graduated from Brooklyn College; Ph.D. from Harvard’s Department of Social Relations, 1949.

Death: July 21, 2006, at his home in Santa Cruz, Calif.
