Professions: One of the original five employees of Microsoft; aided in designing the BASIC and COBOL computer programs; donated to Lifelong AIDS Alliance, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Degrees: Graduated from Stanford University in 1976, with a degree in electrical engineering; graduated from Harvard Business School in 1981.

Quote: "Ric’s wish is for all of us to think generously of the charities of our choice as often as we can."

Death: June 24, at his home in Seattle.
