Cornelia “Cia” Wheelwright Iselin, 88

Professions: Environmental activist; ran a coed day camp; taught gymnastics; instructed in Red Cross swimming and First Aid ; led Cub and Girl Scout troops; homemaker; taught at Bellow Falls Middle School; developed an alternative educational program for children.

Degrees: Earned a scholarship to Smith College, graduating in 1940; attended the college of physicians and surgeons at Columbia University; received her graduate degree in 1945 from Radcliffe in Russian; later went to Keene State College to gain certification in teaching.

Passions: An environmental activist who touted the benefits recycling and renewable energy, she developed a solar powered ice cream truck to educate children in alternative energy sources; an opponent of nuclear power who once debated the topic on television with Senator Johnny Sununu; a lover of folk music and Russian poetry.

Genealogy: Mrs. Iselin’s husband was a descendant of John Jay, the first chief justice of the Supreme Court.

Death: June 3, 2006, in Nelson, N.H.
