Sally L. Howes, 76

Profession: Taught in the Holyoke school system; worked as the administrative assistant for the National Felt Company of Easthampton.

Degrees: Graduated from Radcliffe in 1952, with an A.B. in psychology; earned her master's degree in education from Springfield College.

Passions: Once considered one of the top rated women in U.S. Chess; the first women President of the Massachusetts Chess Association; enjoyed bridge; loved to read.

Death: June 12, 2006, in Springfield, Mass.
