Passions: McCarter collected WWII survival gear, which became the basis for a book, a collaboration with Douglas Taggart, called "One-Man Pneumatic Life Raft Survival Kits of World War II," to be published in July by Schiffer Publishing of Atglen, Pa.
Notable: On July 5, 1949, he took part in the first ascent of Mount Vancouver, then the highest peak not yet climbed in North America.
