Maritime law will now have to soldier on without one of its foremost experts, Herbert Lord, whose death was announced today in the New York Times. President emeritus of the Maritime Law Association, which works to reform and harmonize the law of the sea among nations, Lord remained active in MLA affairs as late as 2002.
