John Lee Espy was trained as a chemical engineer, but his calling was teaching. “Dr. Espy was a true gentlemen and a scholar. There are times in an individual's life when you met someone that has a profound impact on you, Dr. Espy was that individual for me,” Terry Roberts writes in the guest book, honoring Espy, who died April 24 in Topeka.
After a brief career as a chemical engineer for the Kodak Eastman Company, Espy, who received his DBA at Harvard Business School, spent the rest of his life teaching others, the Topeka Capital-Journal reports. Espy lived all over the world, including Istanbul and Hong Kong, where he worked at the Chung Chi College (later part of the Chinese University of Hong Kong). He continued to educate others even after his retirement, teaching business courses at the Washburn University.
