The daughter of legendary music producer Quincy Jones and Mod Squad actress Peggy Lipton, Jones used to say she wanted to be the first black Jewish woman president. Barring that, a little acting, modeling and producing is tiding her over for now.
Sam Jones
She is…actress-model-producer. “I’m a hyphenate,” says Jones, 30, who is launching her own clothing line (“casual—tees and cashmere”). Just wrapped…The Ten, which she co-produced, a comedy based on the Ten Commandments that stars Winona Ryder and Jessica Alba. Next up…a recurring role alongside actor B.J. Novak on NBC’s The Office, produced by Greg Daniels. Family ties…the daughter of legendary music producer Quincy Jones and Mod Squad actress Peggy Lipton, Jones used to say she wanted to be the first black Jewish woman president. Father knows best…the elder Jones taught his daughter to “make decisions out of love, not fear.” Enjoys…her college friends. “They’re self-effacing and have this particular awareness, a real understanding of class, social structure, and social dynamics that they’re really good at making fun of.” Despises…acting shop talk. Happy to…serve on the board of Peace Games, a nonprofit led by Eric Dawson that partners with American schools to help children learn to be “peacemakers.” Obama in ’08? “Love him. But I think he’s a little young—I’d hate to waste him.”
