A Harvard Holiday

Sure, the best things in life are free. But if you don’t get peace, love, and understanding this holiday season, how about a pair of diamond earrings and two weeks on the Great Barrier Reef?

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

For my Harvard graduation, my grandmother gave me four years of medical school.

The best gift you’ve ever given?

I gave a medical report when I was a correspondent for NBC News. A fellow Harvard grad saw the report, followed the advice I had given, and, after years of failing to conceive, gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

What is on your gift wish list?

Four large flat-screen monitors arranged in a square so that I can watch ESPN, CNN, the History Channel, and Animal Planet all at once without getting up from my desk.

Toughest person on your list to buy for?

My wife! She never wants anything. And I always want to get her the perfect gift.

What will you get her?

I have my eye on a pair of canary diamond earrings that would look dazzling on her honey skin.
