Everywhere: Pangea Day

Photograph by Joshua Kessler

Pangea Day, a global event hoping to unite the world through film, will begin at 18:00 GMT on May 10, 2008, at venues in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro. The brain-child of Control Room and Startup.com documentarian Jehane Noujaim, Pangea Day will feature 24 short films, live music, and speakers, including Queen Noor of Jordan, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, and musician/activist Bob Geldof. The proceedings will be broadcast live in seven languages to millions of people worldwide through the Internet, cell phones and television. Earlier this year, 02138’s Kristin Butler wrote that Noujaim hopes Pangea Day will “spark a conversation between people who wouldn’t ordinarily speak to one another.”
