10023John Lithgow, the wide-reaching stage and screen actor who has won two Tony Awards and four Emmys and written seven children books, is starring in a new one-man show this month at Lincoln Center. In Stories By Heart, Lithgow, playing nine different characters, chronicles three generations of Lithgow family history. The actor in one scene tells of reading to his ill father the same P.G. Wodehouse novel that his father had read to him 50 years earlier. Stories By Heart is directed by Jack O’Brien, who won three Tony awards recently for directing Coast of Utopia, Henry IV, and Hairspray. Lithgow’s most recent Broadway appearance came in 2005, as con artist Lawrence Jameson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
