Name: Joe Medioli
Homebase: Teaneck, NJ
Precise: Joe Medioli and the 2008 Men’s Varsity Heavyweight Crew team have brought the Sexton Cup back to Cambridge, as they beat the Yale Bulldogs by a cool 7 seconds.
Work in Progress: Last year, the Crimson’s seven year winning streak was shattered by in the blink of an eye when Yale pulled in front by a half second and claimed the Sexton Cup at the Harvard-Yale Regatta. Now that the Harvard Crimson has reclaimed the cup, senior captain Joe Medioli ’08 can retire his oar on a winning note. Despite Harvard's 20 Sexton Cup holdings in the 23 years, this win, for Captain Medioli, is “probably the best-feeling race we had in four years. It feels so sweet.” Yale Captain Jack Vogelsang commented that the near lack of seniors on the Bulldog team this year left them lacking leaders; However, Medioli and his crew thought that, “Going in, we felt like the two crews were very even.”
Better Luck Next Year: Joe leaves next years squad big boatshoes to fill, and of the eight Crimson rowers, four are graduating this year and four are rising seniors.
